What if my watch is magnetized?

If your watch suddenly begins to run very fast then it has likely become magnetized.

The magnetization of mechanical watches typically occurs when the watch is exposed to magnetic fields. These fields can influence the tiny metal components inside the watch, especially the balance spring (also known as the hairspring) and other delicate parts of the movement.

Modern devices like smartphones, speakers, laptops, and other electronics generate magnetic fields that can affect a watch's movement.

To prevent magnetization, it is recommended to avoid wearing a mechanical watch near sources of strong magnetic fields, such as speakers, electronic devices, and high-voltage machinery.

If a watch becomes magnetized, it can be demagnetized by a watchmaker at an affordable cost.

Demagnetization of the watch is not covered by warranty.
